Asleep Upon Your Bed

When you are sorrowful look again in your heart,
and you shall see that in truth you are weeping
for that which has been your delight.

Some of you say, "Joy is greater than sorrow,"
and others say, "Nay, sorrow is the greater."

But I say unto you they are inseparable.

Together they come, and when one sits alone
with you at your board, remember that the
other is asleep upon your bed.

-Kalil Gibran

  2. Polarities are similar to the faces of the coin. All part of the same coin. I like the Gibran image pretty well. But joy/sorrow are not two, not one.

So true. Thanks for the reminder, Jenny!

  4. Nice. I especially like Steven's comment. The word "organic" has been in my head a lot lately. I like the idea that sorrow and joy are organically interwoven. Thinking of it this way makes me realize how obviously true that is.
